Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease of young women with a wide variety of clinical expression. During the course of lupus disease, depending on ethnicity, between 40 and 60% of patients will develop renal involvement in SLE. Lupus nephropathy has a variable and polymorphic clinical and biological expression. Renal biopsy remains an essential diagnostic tool and is also of great interest in therapeutic decisions. In spite of an adapted and early medical management, the frequency of the evolution towards chronic renal failure remains not negligible. Through our live, we have carried out an update on the renal damage during SLE by studying the current epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic, evolutionary and prognostic characteristics.
