This volume offers the early history of Syracuse (Onondaga County, New York) related by one of the original settlers, and describes the first settlements, Erie Canal, salt manufacturing, churches, but most importantly the early settlers and their families. Readers are treated to a down home glimpse of the city, its growth and its people. A full-name index completes this work. This series of "smaller than book size" publications has been selected from among the many thousands of published works concerning the history and genealogy of New York State. Many of these "gems of genealogy" have long lain hidden and forgotten; incorporated in other works or other collections unknown and unavailable to the average genealogist. Most of the books are not facsimile reprints of the original, because a good copy of the original could not be obtained. Rather, the material has been retyped, often leaving out photographs when good copies could not be obtained.
