The author of the book is one of the enlightened votaries of Tajikistan, Yakub Islamov, who devoted 28 years of his life (1964-1992) to diplomatic service. His honest self-sacrificing labor over the course of decades and illustrious service as a rank-and-file officer granted him the highest rank in diplomacy, that of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Envoy; the same rank as that of a Colonel-General in the military.

It was no easy matter to gain this honorable title. Yakub Islamov painstakingly reproduced his arduous journey through the realm of diplomacy in the book "Reminiscences of the Diplomat", which also depicts the struggle of the brilliant Soviet diplomacy to consolidate friendly ties and initiate collaboration between our country and the countries of the Middle East, namely Iraq, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. This work demanded full dedication, unwavering courage, knowledge, and strength of will. In the course of almost three decades, Yakub Islamov fulfilled with honor the assignments of the motherland and returned to his native region with head held high.
