Set in the island of Ceylon, Sri Lanka, and later Canada, and is an autobiography in poetry form. Starting with the two most important persons in my life, and going onto recall my upbringing in the nineteen fifties and sixties. Being brought up in the old colonial regime of my grandfather, and being shown many aspects of his benevolent, but sometime brusque nature, and a mother who lovingly nurtured me. Comaraderieship among siblings is highlighted.
I pinpoint the British catholic school upbringing, which "moulded" the child's character, so to speak. Mine was a mixed race. "The Burgers", (meaning citizens in Dutch). A fraction of Sri Lanka society, descending from Europeans. Me, from the Portuguese and British. I quote from "An inside guide to Sri Lanka". We, the burgers are now "....., at the crossroads of culture", and as a race have spread our wings to vast domains of the global sphere.
