Have you ever found yourself telling a story, a story about someone else and in the midst of telling it, you realize the parallels to your own life? Such is the journey of Margaret Marshall Rhyne as she reveals the lessons learned from her daughter Alexis' life. Lessons not only about Ms. Rhyne's own personal struggles, but also with a bureaucratic system that does not always meet the needs of her disabled daughter. Throughout Alexis' life, Ms. Rhyne's insight, grace and vulnerability add to the lessons learned about honesty, strength, compassion and unconditional love from her daughter. Remembering Alexis is just that story; where in telling the story of her daughter Alexis, Margaret Marshall Rhyne comes to also better understand herself. A marvelous, thoughtful read for all.
Very Inspiring, touching, and real.

What a wonderful memoir of the life of Alexis and her family. A "must read" for anyone touched by a disibility of a child, a friend, or a family member. Margaret recounts all of the ups and downs of the emotionally trying time with Alexis - fighting for her daughter every step of the way, but showing that there is always a dark side as well. Margaret pulled through the darkness, advocated for her daughters and herself, and came out shining. This book will make you laugh and make you cry and make you realize the challanges and rewards of having a disabled child. Wonderful read.
Sharing Grace

Those who suffer great loss don't often tell their stories with the steady, forthright voice of author Margaret Rhyne. That's probably because hers is more than a story of losing her daughter, it's a mother's story of giving birth to a beautiful baby whose epileptic seizures rob her of any ability to develop physically or emotionally. 'Remembering Alexis' is really Margaret's story about combatting a world that narrowly defines children like Alexis while sustaining wholeness for herself, her children, her friends and family . The center of her life is caring for her two daughters while jobs, family commitments and relationships crumble and reappear. This is a remarkable book by a remarkable mother, wife and friend whose story sheds light on the nature of unconditional love. It is a heart-wrenching book, a Mother's gift, one whose truth and illuminating grace are lasting tributes to Alexis's being.
