Remember This: Memorising World Capitals Made Easy

The three-step method recommended relies on combining a picture relating to the name of the country with a picture relating to the name of the capital, such that a combined picture is easy to recall.

Step one: A picture relating to a country, for example Romania: a Roman soldier with his shield and sword.

Step two: A picture which helps one to remember the name of the capital. In the case of Romania - Bucharest - a book resting on the Roman soldier's thigh.

Step three: By remembering the combined picture one is reminded that the capital of Romania is Bucharest; the Roman soldier (Romania) is giving the 'book a rest' (Bucharest) on his thigh.
