Mtesa is a country drawn apart with a thin line between black and white people. With Mtesa's strong racial segregation that defines their social eminence, it becomes the root of Kungulu's journey to understand his two heritages. Being half black and half white, he learns about the ways of life of the two separate worlds, but is unable to detach himself from either one. With his mother's African spirit and his growing relationship with the westernised Bellmont family, he eventually achieves his goals in finding his own identity as a coloured African boy from Mtesa.
