Remarriage & Adultery: In the Bible

This book is about divorce and remarriage. Man was created to rule his household and to have dominion over the whole earth. Woman was created to help him, and populate the world (Genesis 2:18). Man was created in the image and glory of God. Woman in the glory of man. In the beginning, divorce was not an option (Matthew 19:8). Man left his mother and father, cleaved to his wife, and the two became one flesh. They are one, therefore, we should not separate what God joined together. God made them one to have godly offspring. Moses allowed man to put away his wife because of the hardness of his heart. Sin, taking opportunity by the commandments, produced in us all manner of evil desires. Jesus commands believers not to divorce their spouse, unless they are married to an unbeliever who already separated from the marriage (1 Corinthians 7:10-11, 15). The woman was bound to the law of her husband (Genesis 3:16). And because of this, his wife was not allowed to initiate a divorce (1 Corinthians 7:10). And if she is separated, she is commanded to remain unmarried or reconcile to her husband. Man is not to leave his wife (1 Corinthians 7:11). But if he marries when loosed from a wife, he does not sin (1 Corinthians 7:26-27). The woman is loosed after her husband dies (1 Corinthians 7:39) but she must marry a husband in the Lord. But only the younger widows and the unmarrieds (1 Timothy 5:9). For it is better to marry than burn with passion (1 Corinthians 7:9-10).
