Remarriage & Adultery: In the Bible

This book looks at divorce and remarriage in the Bible for the Church. Man was created to lead his family, and his wife was created to help him. That means divorce and remarriage should be looked at through a patriarchal lens. Man was allowed to divorce his wife according to the Law of Moses (Deuteronomy 24:1). The woman was not allowed to divorce her husband (1 Corinthians 7:10). If a woman did separate from him, she was commanded to remain unmarried or reconcile to her husband (1 Corinthians 7:11). The man was told not to marry unless loosed from a wife (1 Corinthians 7:27-28). The woman was allowed to remarry after the death of her husband (1 Corinthians 7:39). It is assumed the divorced woman is allowed to remarry (Deuteronomy 24:1). If the woman remarried while a former husband was still living, she was not allowed to partake of the widow's fund (wife of one husband). And for man to be chosen for leadership in the church, he had to still be married to his first wife (husband of one wife). Moses gave permission for divorce, but Jesus holds believers to a higher standard.
