Adya Jordan must choose her future: rejoin the family she adores or save the world. She can't do both. Stay-at-home mom with strange genes, Adya finds herself fourteen again and hopes to recapture her... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Fast paced, this story kept me turning the pages long after I should have turned out the lights. The science was well done, lots of background research went into the story of one woman who finds herself fourteen again in a changed 1985. A group of elite scientists have been busy re-writing history to stave off a future disaster, working in the dark because they don't know what's going to happen on 11/11/11, they just know it's going to be big. In walks Adya Jordon, a mother of six who questions the program but ends up being the missing link, a veritable genetic treasure chest because of a special sequence of DNA contained in her cells. Told solely from the point of view of the main character for most the story, occasionally we get a glimpse of the future through the journals of Doctor Nicholas Weaver, the scientist responsible for the regressions. His lonely world revolves around trying to prevent the disaster of 11/11/11, without actually being there. I very much appreciated the fast pace, nothing was included in the story that didn't need to be there. It reads alot like Crichton, with hard science and good action supported with intelligent dialogue. I look forward to the next installment.
Excellent First Novel

I enjoyed Regression quite a bit - so much so that I had to force myself to put my Kindle away about 4 o'clock in the morning two nights in a row. I finished the book the third night. I think the character development is excellent, and the story line is intriguing. It's also easy to read, and far better edited than I've come to expect from new authors. Being sick to death of the typical time travel tale, this book caught my interest in the first few pages and held it until the end. Regression incorporates the notion of time travel in a new and inventive way. Wanting more, I'll be very glad when the author finishes the sequel so I can spend some more quality time with the characters! I expect the next book to be even better than the first, and hope it will tie up the loose ends and questions that remain to be answered. There were times while reading that I wondered if the book were geared to suit a young adult audience due to the simplicity of sentence structure, and times when I felt a value judgement point might be being made a bit too directly. Even so, I'll not hesitate to purchase the next installment in this story. After all, even such immensely popular books as the Twilight series are clearly targeted at the young adult audience, but not limited to it.
Loved it

have so far only made it to paige nine but I felt that I had to write something already. It is an extremely emotional mind twist and I have enjoyed every word of it... I am so far highly impressed and already recommend it to anyone who loves science fiction books. I meant Chapter Nine... I will make at least one more recommendation once I see if the ending impresses me as much as the beginning and towards the middle has. I have finished the book and have enjoyed it so much that I highly recommend it as a read. It brought me tears, laughter, and excitement for the next book. I am honored to be able to have read the book and look forward to the next, I want to cry and laugh some more and Hope everything turns out well.
1985 lives again...but different!

(from website [...] submission) When Adya Jordan awakens after a head injury, she is told her memories of a husband and children are simple dreams, but she can't fight the powerful hold these visions have on her heart. In her quest to find the truth behind the changes she sees around her in 1985, she discovers a powerful company run by a select group of men holds the answers. Adya joins the men, all of whom share her memories of an alternate timeline, and together they forge a plan to save the world from impending doom. Bell creates an incredibly appealing main character in Adya Jordan, a kind of Mother Earth figure with warmth, compassion, and humour. You may find yourself crying along with her as she mourns her lost family and resigns herself to her fate. The science is understandable, the time travel element unique, and the story fascinating, but Bell leaves off with a cliff-hanger which must wait for the apparent sequel.
Stunning Debut!

In a stunning first novel, Kathy Bell introduces a future apocalypse but offers a possible and radically innovative solution to the end of mankind as we know it. Adya Davies, a 40-year-old mother of six children, awakes in a hospital bed, in another version of her fourteen-year-old body, but with all her memories of her husband and children and former life intact. In an attempt to navigate the world of her fourteen-year-old self, she discovers painful and strange connections to a different future from the one she remembers. Entering a world of world-class scientists striving to save the world from the oncoming disaster, Adya discovers her unique role in humanity's future. Kathy Bell makes her scientific premise understandable and believable, even to a reader with no scientific background. What's even better is her ability to make you care enormously for Adya as she struggles to find her place in this version of her world, while mourning her family's loss in another life. Bell doesn't answer all the questions raised in Regression; she leaves some for the second in her planned trilogy. Welcome, Kathy Bell to the world of scifi!
