After an extremely close call in her second provincial election, Regina Colwell MLA finds herself at Squatters' Ridgeon the rural edge of her district investigating the tragic deaths of a constituent and a dear friend. There, on a dangerous stretch of highway, she encounters a marginal community of Indigenous squatters. She's just trying to help, so why are they shooting at her and trying to run her over in a truck? And why is the minister of highways so sensitive when she asks about the Ridge during question period?

Regina is stumped, but keeps going back to the rain-soaked Ridge to find some answers. The young legislator's aggressive investigation ultimately leads to the resignation of a cabinet minister and the surprising discovery of a ruthless killer.
