Endodontists have been looking for biologically based treatment procedures, which could promote regeneration of the dentin-pulp complex destroyed by infection or trauma, for several decades. After a long, extensive research in vitro and in vivo animal experiments, multipotent dental stem cells capable of differentiating into odontoblast-like cells, scaffolds and growth factors were discovered forming the future and backbone of regenerative endodontics.Regenerative endodontics uses the concept of tissue engineering to restore the root canals to a healthy state, allowing for continued development of the root and surrounding tissue. Potential to regenerate an injured or necrotic pulp would be advantageous especially in young permanent teeth. These developments in the regeneration of a functional pulp-dentin complex have a promising impact on efforts to retain the natural dentition, the ultimate goal of endodontic treatment.The purpose of this book is to review the potential of regenerative endodontic procedures for immature teeth with necrotic pulp.Dr. Pranauti Sonaje.
