You've just spent a day on the water under a sweltering sun. You sit back, enjoying the seclusion of a remote anchorage, lulled by the rattle of ice in your cold drink. A pretty picture, but a rare... This description may be from another edition of this product.

Not for Dummies, But Very Good Anyway

This book is a little on the technical side and is overdue for a revision, plus a good bit of the material covered is also covered in Mr. Calder's Mechanical & Electrical Manual, but not all of it. We get more detail here. If you want to become one with your refrigeration unit, this is the book for you. It'll help keep you in ice cubes no matter how hot the clime.

Top shelf item

This book is a must have on any boaters book shelf. It has a good balance of theory and pratical instruction on refeer repair. Nigal always writes a good instruction manual on just about any boat system and this is no exception.

How to get rid of problems that plague you

Excellent in all aspects, I got tired of waiting for tecnicians that never arrived. One day after 4 years I decided to get my sailboat's refrigeration back and running, Purchased the book, instruments, and all paraphernalia associated with it, including a Ritchie Vacuum pump from EBay as well as an electronic gas snifer or leak detector. We bought all this among 4 sailboat owners and never again had to call on service. The book is invaluable. And think of the bundle saved plus we don't depend on anyone to resolve our problems. Tech but right on

This book is technical, and without any previous HVAC knowledge, it'll take some review work to put the pieces together. That being said, it will get you from total ignorance to ability to design, order parts for, and build your own onboard refrigiration unit or freezer. This does need revision, as R12 refrigerant has gone by the wayside, and newer products are now used. The components and design elements however, remain unchanged. If you want to design and build the perfect onboard unit, I'd say you have to have this book.

Exeptional

The best $ I ever spend. After 40 years of experience in the refrigeration trade, This is the best book I got my hand on. It may be at time a little over technical for the average sailer but this is definitlly a must have. Nigel Calder, I like your style.
