This book is for the adult only-child. More specifically, it's for the over fifty-year-old adult only-child, with no children, no significant other, and no extended family. These words are for the adult only-child sitting entirely alone after a parent's death, who hears a deafening silence. This person thinks no one comprehends how alone they feel after both their parents have died. It would help if you had the support and guidance from someone who could grasp being an only-child and can validate someone like you.

A search on the internet for information to help the adult only-child figure out what to do during or after this life-changing event doesn't offer much useful information. You may find a few articles written about only-children. These articles and their comments most often degenerate into competitions between those with and without siblings. If you have children, you may find emotional support available through those relationships. My purpose for this book, though, is to help guide you through the most challenging time in your life and let you know you're not the only-only (O2).
