Welcome to the wonderful world of the Scandinavians, an enchanted people whose history is filled with romantic tales of bold Vikings and pagan gods. Today's Vikings are more likely to become merchants... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I remember while traveling through the lake country of Northern Minnesota, nearly every gift shop, bait shop or convenience store would have a handful of Red Stangland's joke pamphlets at the counter. His collections of Uff Da jokes and tales of the continuing misadventures of Ole and Lena were the stuff of legend, as important to an impressionable young Scandinavian as were the Icelandic sagas -- just nowhere near as dark! Sure, the humor can be corny, but it can also border on the surreal. And reading the dialectic prose aloud makes me feel like I've returned to my youth, travelling with my parents along the western shores of Lake Superior. Though it may be a bit too regional for non-Midwesterners or non-Scandis, there is plenty to love (and learn from) here. If you're up for good old-fashioned goofy (and often self-deprecatory; a basic tenet of ethnic jokes told within a community) humor, you'll appreciate having years of material collected in one essential volume.
