Red House Blues

This is a real coming of age story of a young African American girl Kai, who grows up on the southside of Chicago. What is interesting about the story is that young girl grows up in poverty and survives the 80's and overcomes her circumstances. She realizes that her strong family history of music and love is what has helped her to become a strong young successful woman through it all. Both sides of Kai's family had a strong history of being Blues musicians. The main character Kai becomes a teenager in the 80's in Chicago when House music began. Because music had always been an integral part of Kai's life since birth it was only natural for her to embrace the House culture and to accept it as her musical support as her family had the Blues. Although Kai loved house the Blues would always have a special place in her heart.
