The final disposal of household waste is a problem for many cities and understanding this issue starts with an analysis of the main recyclable materials present in this solid waste. This text discusses the quantity ofmaterials discarded and the percentages of each category of recyclables present in the waste collected in the municipality of Itacoatiara-AM. The agents responsible for this collection, waste pickers and scrapyards, are often not enough to provide an adequate return of recyclable materials to the industry.
