Recurring Fictions

By turns playful and poignant, Recurring Fictions follows a family across a continent, through generations, around a city, and into language to find the place that is home. Poet Wendy McGrath's first novel is a startlingly beautiful narrative of the journeys that draw us together and drive us apart.

Memories

This is one of the books that awakenes memories burried deep inside our conscience, reminds us of the little things in life - boots we had in school, looks from out parents when we misbehaved and the silence that follows afterwards. This book has universal appeal to all of us, no matter where we grew up and what kind of life we led before becoming adults. As I was reading the book I felt calm and at ease, quite often smiling at similarities between McGrath's world and my own. Wonderful book.

Learning the responsibilities of adulthood

Recurring Fictions by Wendy McGrath is a unique and literate novel a young woman's adolescence, written in the format of numerous short entries much like a daily journal. Blending voices from the girl's family members with her own experiences and revelations, Recurring Fictions offers a day-by-day look into the challenges of learning the responsibilities of adulthood.
