She was born Lois Marion Kahl in Baltimore and raised on Marlo Farm near Reisterstown, Maryland, where she learned her love of animals and dreamed of traveling the world. She lives in Mercy Ridge, a retirement community in Lutherville, with her cat, Lucy.
