Great suspense, wonderful romance

I really enjoyed this book. RECLAIM MY LIFE has everything a lover of romance and suspense would want. The county sheriff, Wil, recognizes strong-willed Elizabeth as the beautiful woman she is--inside and out--beneath her purposefully drab appearance. Principled and willing to pay the price for what she knows is right, Elizabeth is torn between her growing feelings for Wil, her equally growing fear that a killer is getting closer and her unwillingness to share the secret she's convinced has kept her alive. Ms. Norman skillfully took me step by step through the murderer's process of finding his quarry. Her characters and descriptions are detailed without being overwhelming. I felt comfortable with the town and its inhabitants shortly after starting the book, and felt I was sharing coffee with them by the end. Good job, Ms. Norman! I'm looking forward to your next book.

terrific romantic suspense

The English professor calling herself Elizabeth Stevens moved to Drake Springs in the upper part of Florida over a year ago. She is friends with recent arrivals Cathleen Hodge, Kris Knight and Sunny, they frequently get together and go out on the town. Elizabeth Stevens is not her birth name, but that became her name when she entered the witness protection program. There is a hit out for her by Lexington, Kentucky's most renowned surgeon Dr. Frank Sullivan who is up on charges of racketeering and murder which Elizabeth as Sofia Desalvo witnessed; her testimony could lead to Death Row. He hires the best to find and kill her, but that will not be easy as Elizbath has gained weight, dressed dowdy and cut her hair; she looks nothing like Sofia. Despite her changes, local sheriff Wilson Drake is interested in the drab looking professor and she feels the same though she lives a lie. She fears an assassin is in town searching for her when two of her friends are murdered. Wilson agrees that the killer has moved into Drake Springs. He vows to keep the woman he loves safe, but knows how difficult that will be as the town has numerous newcomers with almost any one of them there for the hit. Cheryl Norman is a terrific romantic suspense writer whom sub-genre fans should keep an eye on as she is very talented. The heroine is strong willed and refuses to be RUNNING SCARED, but her key trait is her ability to adapt even to adversary and incredible levels of stress and guilt. Wilson knows there is much more to this mysterious woman who as dull Elizabeth still oozes Sofia's charm and realizes she is in the witness protection program, which means he accidentally compromises her. RECLAIM MY LIFE is simply super. Harriet Klausner

4.5 stars. I enjoyed the time I spent reading the book. I loved the developing relationship betwee

STORY BRIEF: Sofia witnessed a murder in Kentucky. Since the trial might not begin for a year or more, she was given a new identity (Elizabeth) and job through the Witness Security Program. Sofia was thin and athletic with long brown hair. Elizabeth is 33 pounds heavier with short blond hair. She wears no makeup and dresses in frumpy clothing. She is a literature professor at a college in a tiny town in northern Florida. The killer hired an assassin to find and kill Sofia. Wil has been joining Elizabeth for breakfast at the local diner for several months. Although he is attracted to her, she has kept the relationship platonic. Two women in town have been murdered. Elizabeth thinks there might be a connection to her situation. She can't tell Wil, because she must keep her identity a secret. REVIEWER'S OPINION: This was a worthwhile story. I loved the relationship between Wil and Elizabeth. I liked how Wil saw her true nature and depth instead of her less attractive appearance. I liked Elizabeth's effect on Wil's self esteem. I felt like I was there in this small town enjoying the people. I only had two problems (see spoilers below), but I could accept them because the rest of the story was good. DATA: Story length: 411 pages. Swearing language: moderate. Sexual language: none to mild. Number of sex scenes: 2. Total number of sex scene pages: 6. Setting: current day Drake Springs, Florida and Kentucky. Copyright: 2009. Genre: romantic mystery suspense. OTHER BOOKS: To date, I've read one other book by Cheryl Norman. My 3.5 star review of "Restore My Heart" Copyright 2007 was posted 10-23-08. CAUTION SPOILERS: The killer knew what town Sophia was in and had her picture. The killer thought three different women could be Sophia. That troubled me because I think the killer should have been able to analyze facial features and know that Elizabeth was the one. All she did was gain weight and change her hair color. I was also troubled with something done too frequently in suspense stories. The heroine did something stupid that put her in harms way.
