Two sisters in their seventies travel back to their hometown to a memorial open house for their older brother. Since the trip is likely to be their last there, they visit their old haunts, as memories surface of growing up on the poor side of town in the post World War II years. During the weekend, they gain a new appreciation for their mother and father's struggles. Raised in the depression era under difficult circumstances, their parents worked hard to give their children better lives than they had and to instill good values. The story is told in a collection of flashback vignettes during their visit to the river town where they were born.Although a true story, some creative license has been taken in writing this memoir. At times memories that were little more than snapshots were expanded into scenes. Names that could not be recalled are fictitious, and the timeline is somewhat rearranged. Through the pages, however, the emotional truths have been faithfully recorded.
