The idea for this novel came from a shard of evidence found in a Canadian government archive about Canadian soldiers participating in combat during the Vietnam War. At the time, the Canadian government asserted that Canadian troops were never engaged in combat in Vietnam.Although the archived information could not be authenticated, several officers in the Canadian Navy claimed that they knew of a group of soldiers that fought alongside US Marines in Vietnam to gain combat experience for training purposes.Ready Aye Ready is a fictional account of one such soldier, a young medic with the Canadian Navy, who is a member of a task group fighting alongside US Marines in Vietnam. Remarkably realistic and fast-paced, this novel gives the reader an opportunity to experience up close one soldier's story; the savagery of combat in the villages and on the beaches of Vietnam lightened by the camaraderie and romance of battle.
