This is the exact same book that my son used in his kindergarten class. Now that my daughter will be going to his school, I purchased the book to get her started. She is in pre-K and this book is not too difficult for her. I mostly use the pages dealing with reading and writing sentences (fill in the blank with the correct word). Other pages involve practicing writing the letters and recognizing the beginning sound and storytelling. The activities are all interspersed with each other, increasing in difficulty as the child progresses through the book. For instance, in the beginning, my daughter filled in the blank with the work "I," followed by the picture of a child doing something to make three separate sentences. Later, She fills in the blank from a choice of words like "my," "like," "you," to complete three different sentences. There are phonic exercises like adding a letter to the beginning of "at" to make different words and then using those words in sentences. What's nice about that is that a certain sound group will be worked on for a few lessons, rather than just once and forgotten so that the child becomes familiar with forming words with that sound. After learning to form words with the ending "at," the book goes on to form words ending with "ig," all the while continuing to use words ending in "at" in sentences. The book keeps building on its former lessons. Very nicely laid out and good at keeping the children's attention. I can understand why this book was chosen for my child's school -- easy to use lessons and progresses in a logical manner.
