FRESH INSIGHTS

A few notes on this exceptional book: "The ten ideas for writing" gives students a chance to creatively respond to literature - and to really get a grasp of it. The ten prompts work wonders for student writing! "Write an Imaginary interview with the author" is an example: allows students to use imagination to take flight into a work in their own way. Then they're better prepared to write a formal essay on the literature. Research writing, of course, is covered in good detail - along with concise explanations of the different genres. Some of the Harjo, Blake, and Carver selections tune to the heart as well as the mind. Great material with deeper insights than most texts. The Interchapter Notebooks contain truly unusual perspectives as well. This is a book you'll want to keep for an enjoyable Sunday morning read - for years! A worthy companion book might be Twitchell's The Flute of God.
