The most interesting book I've read this year...

OK, so I'm not much of a reader but I have to admit this is one of the best books I've read in many years. I usually get bored with most novels and it ends up taking me weeks or months to finish them. I read Reach in 8 hours without putting it down. The storyline is gripping, filled with adventure and mystery. Mixing a bit of politics and religion into the story goes a long way towards keeping my attention. All of us have asked why certain things happen to us in life, so in one way or another all of us can also relate to the main character's struggles and angst. If you want an insightful and compelling read, I highly recommend Reach to the Wounded Healer. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

A Spirtual Tour de Force

'Reach to the Wounded Healer' is a wonderful spiritual novel that explores the human condition and uplifts the soul. Two life-like characters, Paul and John, go on a journey to solve a mystery that is haunting Paul. What he experiences in his adventures from Louisiana to South America to the Ukraine is absolutely amazing. Not since Paulo Coelho's 'The Alchemist' have I been captivated and emotionally moved by a book. Truly an enjoyable and insightful book. Be ready to laugh and cry, often at the same time.

A Book for Today's World

"Reach to the Wounded Healer" is a phenomenal story of life and the choices we make.Paul de la Moret has a life torn by loss. Autin illustrates a character that is in each and every one of us. Yet, we are so afraid to reveal this side within ourselves because we lack what Paul has been given: inner strength and faith in what tomorrow will bring. He loses almost all those close to him, but through these experiences he gains emotional strngth. This inner fortitude spills over to everyone he meets and befriends. The story really picks up pace after he meets John in school. Autin does a remarkable job realistically portraying the ties between two friends such as Paul and John. Paul and John each rely on each other to be there when the times are bad, but also when the times aren't bad. The friendship they represent is the epitome of what a true one should be.Throughout the entire story, whether it be in Louisiana or the Ukraine, Paul exists for everyone as the rock that we all need. He asks those questions that we are all afraid to ask for ourselves, and not because he has to, but because he wants to.The book itself is fast moving and allows the reader to follow along with Paul as he progresses through his life. Even though it is spiritual, it provides all the key components to a good book: suspense, romance, drama, and the list goes on and on. In all, it was a spectacular book, and I would recommend it to anyone.

A story for today

Ernest de l' Autin's, REACH FOR THE WOUNDED HEALER, is the revival of classical literature written for todays fast pace society, with a need of a story, that is told point blank and poignantly.REACH's debut is timely in that we are torn by the confusion of modern life. As others and myself search for that balanced equation to life, de l' Autin offers the reader a suggested path to follow. Through the life of character Paul de la Moret, the reader can immediately empathize with his loves and losses.Cleverly, de l' Autin details that the answer to the future may lie in the icons of the past. He weaves a tale around the haunting dreams of the main character. Paul begins his quest of discovery through the history of family. Paul reveals our answers of healing can be found in our past and how we came to be. From the southern charm and cultivation of bayou Louisiana to half way across the globe to the hardships of the war-torn Ukraine, de l' Autin creates a vivid realism to tie these foreign worlds into a bond of humanity and love. Like Paul, others and I can relate to the desire to know and the direction we are heading. Paul's visions are real as they take him on his journey. For the believer, it is a path looking to a higher power seeking guidance, and for the skeptic, it may be those dark skeletons that taunt the soul in need of rest.REACH like Knowles, A SEPARATE PEACE, gives testament to the power of friendship. The bond forged between Paul to John is a desired part of us. A friend that is all knowing and understanding. Both Paul and John will do unconditionally for the other. Their bond guides us through life. And unlike, "the five people you meet in heaven", de l'Autin tells us those people that lead us on our journey are immediate in the here and now.REACH TO THE WOUNDED HEALER is one of those few novels that any reader regardless of taste in genre...religious, spiritual, fantasy, romance...will come away with satisfaction. I personally look forward to more from this budding author.

Reach Healed...

REACH TO THE WOUNDED HEALER by Ernest de l'Autin was the first novel I had poured myself into since the death of my son in June of 2002. The author has woven a tale about life itself, questioning those tragedies we all ask WHY? And through the experiences of the main character Paul, we can take a shared journey of the soul.My connection to this novel was instant; no self-help manual could have reached my soul as deftly as this one. My thanks to Ernest de l'Autin for feeling my pain, healing my heart, and helping me look toward the rising sun encouraged and strengthened. As an avid reader, books held no meaning for me since my personal tragedy. I can only say, from my heart, this book held not only a promise of healing through forgiveness and acceptance, but a portrayal of a deeply moving saga of human struggle to understand the hurting of the heart; comforted in part by haunting dreams and premonitions that help to explain the ache that lies deep within. Paul's dreams of struggle are tied and completed with the interaction of other characters' personal conflicts. This interaction brought home to me an awareness of how I can use the events and people around me to forgive, to accept and to find inner peace. As in the moving example of a minor character, Maria, who forgave her son's killer and accepted her son's assailant into her life. As de l'Autin recounts Paul's life I was moved by the subtle experience of maturity and growth as he cascades into manhood. Paul, himself, and his friendship to John are REAL giving the true meaning of the bond between two people through good times and bad. I was able to internalize the emotional bond and the external throughout the friendship of Paul and John. I can live the high with Paul as well as the emotionally low when he is struggling. We can all relate to one or all of the events in Paul's life from the simple joy of a childhood friendship to the death of a loved one. The book was well written, easy to read for our hectic lifestyle. The reader is never left to question the direction of the plot as it is sequenced in such a way to lead through the growth of Paul and his journey. de l'Autin's novel does not drown in details. It guides readers to create their own images of characters and settings drawing in for a more personal reading experience.Although religious in content, readers do not have to hold an extreme faith in order to come away with some understanding of the progression of life and its ups and downs. Paul's dreams of haunting conflicts are the same conflicts that everyone shares as a guide to finding peace in life.
