This mystery set on the Russian River (in Northern California) is a start-to-finish thriller of a very unique brand. The host of oddball, quirky characters are realistically drawn and the setting is so well described, I often felt that I was in the story itself. Set in the early 80s, the Praying Bird focuses on a period of recent history when everything seemed superficial and happy--to borrow from Madonna, we were living in a material world. But the country was being run by a loony old man, who may have looked like a charming old grandpa, but who was responsible for atrocities committed all over the world. In the Praying Bird, the author and narrator (psychic detective Ellen Raven) shed light on the darkness and evil of that time. Although the subject matter is disturbing, to say the least, the plot is fascinating and I couldn't put the book down!
Edgar Allan Poe-lovers take note!

Here is a modern-day Poe! The complexity of the main character - an astrologer-detective - drives the action forward through the darker reaches of the spiritual quest. There is a psychological depth here not often found in the genre of mysteries and thrillers.
Well made

This novel kept me on the edge of my seat! The characters almost leap out at you, they seem so real. The end is not for the faint of heart though. Very scary!
