In a small West Texas town it had been an annualtradition to hold a rattlesnake hunt each year to keep down their numbers. The event had not taken place for five years because of intervention from activist groups staging protests of reptile cruelty by applying pressure and media coverage that had persuaded the Chamber of Commerce to cancel the hunts. This year, however was different.Over population and a long enduring drought had caused the rattlesnakes to migrate from the mountains to lower lands in search of water. Andalthough activist groups and media coverage werepresent once again, the hunt sanctioned with prize money would take place, for strange thingswere starting to happen.
