Rats and Rabbits

What does it mean to be a rabbit or a rat? What is the difference between them and us? The answer can only be given by someone who knows both species. We have no knowledge of rats, nor do we know anything about their biology. But when the first humans were evolving on Earth millions of years ago, there was an abundance of rabbits and other small animals. They had large ears with which they could hear predators approaching from very far away, and this allowed them to survive until human beings evolved on the planet. Thereafter, the rats became more successful and took over all the prey animals. They are smarter, faster, stronger than rats, so we don't really want to meet any in our day-to-day lives. If you see one, run away! In that sense, we cannot say if the two animals are different species or not.

There's nothing like the smell of rotting flesh to wake you up at five in the morning. Even more effective would be seeing your wife being killed by your brother-in-law; but this too failed to rouse me from my warm and cozy sleep. So I got up early and went to the kitchen for breakfast, hoping that I might get something other than stale bread and some moldy cheese. As usual, no one bothered to ask if I wanted to eat breakfast with them. It was as though everyone had just decided to ignore me. When I came back from the bathroom with a glass of water, I saw that my mother had placed a plate of food on the table next to her, and she was staring right at it with a sad look on her face.
