In this short book, Rationality Evolved! , Richard McKenzie describes his professional trek toward the development of what he calls "brain-centric economics," a modestly revised and improved version of neoclassical economics. After publication of The Selfish Brain , he realized that his discussion on the evolutionary foundations of economists' rationality premise was cursory and sorely needed development. He also realized that giving rationality an evolutionary foundation (apart from economists' inclination to declare its existence) would make the construct more difficult to criticize. After all, rationality must meet the same Darwinian fitness tests as other human traits, such as the immune system. Those early humans who developed and took advantage of the economies embedded in rational decision-making experienced a Darwinian increase in their likelihood of survival and procreation. At the same time, Professor McKenzie fortifies his argument that "perfect rationality" is an evolutionary nonstarter, mainly because it is inferior to imperfect rationality.
