This collection of poems, short prose pieces, and journal excerpts was written over a fifteen-year stretch when life on the road was more home than any fixed address. During those years, I traveled at least six months out of every year, usually overland-by bus, train, boat, or on foot-keeping notebooks as faithfully as maps. The pages here come directly from those notebooks. They've been left close to their original form. Hence, they carry the immediacy, rough edges, and shifting moods of the moments in which they were written: border crossings and night buses, cheap rooms and long hikes, small joys and occasional disasters. Readers of The Wayward Traveler, The Road to Sedona, and Pithecophilia will recognize places and themes, but this time in a more intimate, fragmentary voice. Think of this little book as a companion volume in the Wayward Travelogues series-a dog-eared field notebook to set alongside the longer journeys. Thanks for coming this far, and for sharing the road.
