Great for ESL

I teach adult ESL at a community college, and as all ESL teachers know, it's critical to get students to begin using an English-English dictionary as soon as possible. There are a number of good ESL dictionaries on the market; my department recommends Newbury House and Longman. Heinle's Newbury House Dictionary of American English with Integrated Thesaurus: The Core of English Language Learning, Fourth Edition (Dictionary and CD-Rom)Longman Dictionary of American English (hardcover) with CD-ROM (3rd Edition) But weighing in at 3 lbs. with a hefty price tag to match, these dictionaries can be a hard sell for financially-strapped students. The Random House intermediate version has 45,000 words, with critically important sentence examples to illustrate usage. And it's a third of the price and much lighter to carry. This is an excellent book for the price. There are beginner and advanced versions too.
