CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE!!

WOW, this book is insperational! My hat's off to the author. Those people who gave this "Gem" a bad review obviously did'nt get what the book was about! All I can say is cudos Mr. Thompson on a job well done! This book is most definitly a must read!

COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!

Derrick's writing style is both captivating and comical. He relives his struggle with his family life and explains how he was able to escape his negativity only after realizing he no longer needed to be a "victim". Derrick uses his humor and personality to balance the emotions in "Raised by Wolves" very well. I couldn't put the book down, and it stayed with me long after I read the last page.

The truth is the truth

I couldn't put this book down.Derick told HIS life story. His is a life of generations of doing the same thing over and over and getting the same results. This is the first step in stopping the cycle. It just happens to include a specific religion. It could be ANY religion. It could be any abusive lineage. He didn't set out to say why his mother or Brian took Elizabeth. That is not a story he can tell. But he can tell you how his childhood molded him. He can also tell you how he "grew up" and started to take responsibility for his own actions. He didn't BLAME his parents, but rather offers the understanding. And most of all, this is an educational book. If you are in recovery from abuse, abandonment, or whatever, this book lets you see that there is hope. Hope to become a better person. For some of us, talking about our history, helps us better understand ourselves and be able to move on in a positive direction and try to help others. All the children from a household do not necessarily see things the same. Each has their own needs. A nurturing parent can deal with each of their children in the necessary way. Derick wanted to give people an insight to how his mother behaved as he was growing up. Perhaps it can shed some light on why she did what she did. These are not excuses - - - but wake up calls to the human element to see what they can do to improve their own life to help themselves, their families, and others. I am sure this was very cathartic for him. He could easily have followed in the footsteps of either of his parents: physically and emotionally abusive, devoid of showing love, and being two-faced. "Keep working on breaking that cycle, Derick, and good luck."

Good Stuff

From the negative reviews, it looks like Derrick has upset some religious people with this book. His book is well written for a first time author, and grinds at you with its brutal honesty. It's obvious some people can't take that to well; and that's too bad, because the World needs more honest people. I guess some people don't understand how much courage it takes to put a book like this out into the publics' eye, and expose you to the strict criticism it will bring. I say good for you Derrick, and keep fighting the good fight.
