Thirteen year old Raine Landry has searched crack houses for his mother since he was eight years old. His mother's drug addiction often leaves him without food and utilities, but Raine is a survivor with dreams of becoming a painter. Quick tempered and street smart, he is recruited by the local gang but declines because he witnesses his mother's struggles.King Brooks is his best friend and provides him with food anytime he ask. Unlike Raine, King is blind by the promise of money the gang offers and choose to join. King realizes gang life is no joke and mistakes are dangerous. With his best friend's life threatened by the gang, Raine must decide weather to confront the gang or do nothing and risk losing the only person that made sure he had food.
