Mystery lovers will savor this multi-level, intriguing plot that unfolds in enticing stages. A family relationship becomes more revealing with the presence of a telepathic, ephemeral figure that uncovers the past and influences the present. Like a bag of salted chips, once you start reading, you can't stop.
Whoa! This was a great and unpredictable ride.

The book is different, dark, delightful, disturbing. There's hope and and menace around every corner. Would make a cool film. I'm already thinking about the best actors to play Zeke, Maggie, Ellen, Paul...

I found this book to be a very easy read and it kept my attention so I couldn't put it down. I thought the ending was going to be predictable, but it wasn't, it was quite a surprise and worth getting to. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have passed it on to many friends and recommended it to many friends.
A rainbow seen from the banks of the Seine

Although I am an American living in faraway France -- in a suburb of Big P (Paris) -- and although I do a lot of my reading in French, I decided that I just could not wait for "Rainbow Dust" to appear in a French translation. Anyway, isn't there something to be said for reading a work in the original? Especially if the original is one's mother language? Can even the best of translators do justice to the style of the author in every respect? A professional reviewer has limited choice in what to review, but I am not a professional reviewer and I furthermore have almost unlimited choice in what I choose to read and to review. Now why would I choose to read "Rainbow Dust"? One reason was because it didn't fit into a conventional genre. It seemed to be about cowboys but I had not heard about any Jewish cowboys before and that angle got my attention. Perhaps this book will lead to some academic studies about Jewish cowboy life. I for one hope so. Perhaps there are also Chinese cowboys. I'd like to know about them also. Another reason I was attracted to this book was that I learned that it featured automatic writing. That is a subject that has interested me lot dating back to the time I first learned that Gertrude Stein studied the subject with Will James at Harvard. Later I was to note in my own experience that sometimes when I wrote at length I seemed after a while to be able to continue without concentration. Then, when I looked at what I had written, I found myself asking, "Did I write that? If not, where did those words come from?" Wasn't it Socrates who said, "Know thyself"? That's hard to do if one writes stuff that doesn't look like what one was thinking. I suspect that there are numerous various of automatic writing and I suspect also that one day we may understand these phenomena better than we do now. I do not expect however that my own seemingly automatic writing has been guided by an Extraterrestial. But wait a second! I have been wrong before. And sometimes I hear or imagine that I am hearing silent voices as when I hesitate before trying to cross a Paris street when I am facing a red light. "Rainbow Dust" has the virtue of being entertaining, which may be the main reason for the attraction it has for most readers. But this fictional work offers more than entertainment. Beneath what superficially is only entertainment is an invitation to consider some matters that deserve continuing investigation such as the nature of writing and the ways in which we communicate.
