Sigurd Svendsen (Pal Sverre Hagen) is a Norwegian archaeologist who is fascinated by a viking ship found at the Oseberg burial mound. He believes that a runic inscription on the ship, which translates to "man knows little," holds the key to understanding the Norse myth of Ragnarok: the day when heaven and earth are destroyed. After finding similar inscriptions on a stone in Northern Norway, Sigurd, along with his kids and a colleague, begins an expedition to uncover the secret of the day of doom.

Only the title of the film has to do with Ragnarök of mythology. Old Norse Ragnarok, "The Doom of the Gods."
An archaeologist, Sigurd Svendsen (Pål Sverre Hagen, who played Thor Heyerdahl in Kon-Tiki), finds a rune stone, thinking it is a map, possibly to a treasure, he finally realizes it was not a map but a warning.
So, he, a widower and a single father, goes on a little expedition/vacation with his family. They are joined by a miscellaneous crew of friends and colleagues; included are colleague Allan (Nicolai Cleve Broch), archaeologist Elisabeth (Sofia Helin), and Ragnhild and Brage, also vacationers.
Oops, too late, nice mystery, and people become monster chow.
Lots of great scenery (Filming Locations: Vikingskiphuset, Oslo, Norway)
