Book Overview

From the critically acclaimed creator of the Heartstopper series comes a smartly crafted contemporary YA novel, perfect for readers who love Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl. This is an utterly captivating and authentic teen novel from the author of Solitaire, which VOYA said "could put her among the great young adult fiction authors."

Frances Janvier spends most of her time studying.

Everyone knows Aled Last as that quiet boy who gets straight As.

You probably think that they are going to fall in love or something. Since he is a boy and she is a girl.

They don't. They make a podcast.

In a world determined to shut them up, knock them down, and set them on a cookie cutter life path, Frances and Aled struggle to find their voices over the course of one life-changing year. Will they have the courage to show everyone who they really are? Or will they be met with radio silence?

I have no words

I have ADHD so sometimes reading for extended periods of time and finishing things is difficult for me. But this book. This wonderful book. I finished this in half a day, and it's not a short book. I was so immersed in the character's lives and I related to so many of them. They're good people but they have very human flaws and they just are so well developed and likable. The plot is never boring or dumb and the whole idea of Universe City is brilliant! There's excellent representation for POC's and LGBTQ+ people but it never directly focuses on that aspect of them it's just who they are and it isn't preachy in it's message about academic pressure and the many paths you can take in life. I would recommend that every young person or teen who is considering college or near the end of high school read this because it completely changed my view on the college narrative. 10/10 this is definitely one of my favorite books ever.
