It is crucial for staff working in all sectors including health and social care to denounce racist behaviour and remarks right now more than ever. The issue is that sometimes we don't know how to handle it when the person who needs to be called out is someone who is "such a good person" or someone who is close to us. The key in this situation is to be ready with a list of potential comments to address. In order to avoid being caught off guard and being mute out of fear of being seen doing nothing, we should get in the habit of saying these. In formulating my own "plan of action," I focus on providing a prompt answer. We must be ready to respond in the same way that we prepare for emergencies. And then we find out how to buidl proactive systems to constantly improve our culture
