Riotously funny, beautifully written, and charged with emotional intelligence, this well-crafted debut investigates the world from the fringe through characters who stray so far from convention they... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Jason Ockert brings his readers on a trip through his twisted mind with his debut book of short stories. His Florida background comes out with the quirkiness of Florida boys: Hiaasen, Crews and Barry, but he does not limit himself to keeping to the South solely. Rabbit Punches is quick and witty. It will cause you to close the book, remove your glasses, rub your eyes and yell out, "What? How does he come up with this s***?" Punches is hilarious as well as touching and moving. I'm a big fan of short stories and this is a batch I'll read over and over again. Ockert is just getting going. I look forward to reading a possible future novel? Hopefully it comes out sooner than later. 5 stars from moi!
A swift punch to the back of the head.

Rabbit Punches is a strange book. I'm just saying. Inside the cover, you can find 13 stories, which are somehow 1 story. This is not to say that these stories are similar. There is a very beautiful interplay that goes on. While all of the stories fly very well on their own, when combined they melt into one another and you can see echoes as you move forward. Ockert seems to pick characters at their most formative, most vulnerable and most ready to experience and at the book's completion, a lot of that rubs off. Also, these essays are have an amazing ability to get under the skin, usually within the first few paragraphs. They hook you in, and especially in the case of "Scarecrowed", make heroin look like gummy bears. If you like good writing, interesting characters, weird sex, or rabbits, I would definitely recommend this book. I mean, I would have given it 5 stars, but Im hoping there's another book soon, you know, something to shoot for.
