A Great Read!

As a former full-time pulpit rabbi for almost three decades (and now a university professor), I thoroughly enjoyed Herb Freed's book. The stories are marvelously and humorouly told, and, though my own situation was not that of Rabbi Ben Zelig, not only rabbis but all clergy can certainly identify with the conundrums surrounding this unique profession. Heartily and easily recommded to all who want to laugh, cry, and sympathize with their clergy--and the clergy themselves!

Compelling Human Experiences

This book will forever thrust rabbis and all revered men of the cloth into the realistic realm of humanity. The stories are simply touching human experiences that just happened to be those of a rabbi. Each story is so compelling with such wonderful lessons to learn that you can't stop until you have read each and every chapter. It is a quick read that will leave you "hungry" for the next book from this author, which I hope will be forthcoming very soon. He has taught me a lot.

Really enjoyed this book! A great read...

I received this book as a gift from someone who knows how much I love Jewish-themed stories. Rabbi Ben Zelig doesn't hold back--he gives you the full picture of his experience, which is shocking at times (I don't want to give anything away here, but this Rabbi has really seen it all!). Overall it's a great read. As we all know, there are many classic tales about a rabbi's life back in the shtetl. What I really enjoyed about this book is that the stories bring the 'genre' into the 21st century, giving me a picture of the inner life of a modern rabbi and characters that are a mix of people I can relate to. These stories are hilarious, charming, racy, touching and wise. It's the kind of book that makes me go looking for more from the same author as soon as I've finished (and that's about the highest praise I can give an author!)
