Great for girls

I read this when I was about 14 (that's the upper limit of the age range I would recommend), and it was so memorable that I've been looking for it on and off for about ten years. Finally I reread it this week. Rosie's family and the adults at the inn are well-characterized, and the story-within-a-story is clever and different. (You have to love the characters named for cheeses, i.e., "Liederkranz". That went right over my head 15 years ago!) Unfortunately the happy "real" ending is a little weak, and we don't get a good sense of any of the kids at school. Still it's a great story and very comforting for girls around the ages of 10 to 13.

I'll never forget this book!

I read this book when I was in elemntary school, that was over 15 years ago and the magic spell it has cast on me has never worn off. Now I'm buying it to read to my son, hopefully it can open up a world fantasy for him too!

An unusual book

"R my name is Rosie" is a book that I remembered so well from childhood that it was worth the time and effort to find a copy, even though it's out of print. To me, the setting and the characters wer so foreign and different than many of the bland, happy characters in other children's books, everyone here had a real personality and interacted like actual humans. The main story is set in the late 1940s, with a story-within-a-story that Rosie and Tex spin out as the book progresses. Both stories are equally interesting, and give something for the child who prefers reality and the child who prefers fairy tales and fantasy. And the ending is satisfying to the reader, since it wraps up an ongoing plot point.Highly recommended.

My favorite book in the world!

I love this book! I read it in 5th grade, and decided it wasthe best! I'm in seventh now, and I still enjoy reading it. Ifanybody liked this book, they can read "Ella Enchanted", another good book.

My Favorite book in the world! Thank goodness for Barbara!!

This was an awesome book! Spectacular and interesting for ages 9 and up. I'm willing to recomend this book to anybody. But this book is pretty much just for girls.
