Quids. Once human and now pets of the vampire race. They are bred, harvested and well cared for on Quid 4, the transition planet between the now dead Earth and the thriving vampire colonies. The Quids live on Quid 4 in families of children. Once their number reaches twenty-two, the families are sold to vampires as a herd. The herd is made up of Quids and Hybrids, half human and half vampire, to be relocated to one of the vampire colonies. The herds work the fields, tend to the homes and are harvested for their blood. Humans are forbidden to leave Quid 4. They can't survive the atmosphere of the vampire colonies. One human child stowed away. And one human survived.
