Fun Book!

Young readers and horse lovers will absolutely love this book! Breen has written a mystery that captivates and engages the reader and keeps you wanting more. I adore T.J., Adrienne, and Mickey. They are such realistic characters that any young teen could relate to them. It's obvious that Krista Michelle Breen has a passion for writing and horses alike. Most of my knowledge of horses has come from reading Dick Francis's mystery novels. I can see why Breen's novels have been called "Dick Francis for kids." I'm looking forward to sharing this book with my nieces.

Quicksand - A Great Book for Young Horse Lovers

Krista Michelle Breen obviously has been around or has loved horses for a very long time. Her descriptions of horses, equestrian techniques of training, riding, racing and even the equipment used is the giveaway regarding Krista's experience. This, combined with her writing style makes for an excellent young adult novel. Krista has written a wonderful book about a young teen and the love for her horse, Dakotaroo. Dakotaroo just vanishes one morning as T.J. was helping the trainer with riding lessons. There was no trace of Dakotaroo. The search for T.J.'s (Theresa Jane) horse yielded no clue as to the whereabouts of Dakotaroo, except for the dreaded thought that someone had taken her. While the local police became somewhat involved along with other adults in the community, the search for the thief was soon dropped and it was panic time for T.J. A very unlikely person, her best friend's brother with his computer, was the first to find a real clue as to Dakotaroos whereabouts. The rest of the story needs to be read so as not to spoil it for readers. Except to say that the suspense and excitement continues to grow as T.J., Adrienne, who is T.J.'s best friend, and others set out to find the beloved horse and many surprises along the way. The book is a must for the young horse lover as it is full of everything horse related. A reader that is a beginner will learn a great deal about riding and caring for horses in addition to enjoying a great horse story. It also has a mystery that keeps one in suspense to the very end While this is Krista's first novel, it reads as the work of a very experienced novelist. I highly recommend this book for any age reader that likes mystery, horses or just a good story.
