Book Overview

Now in its 8th edition, the Quick Reference Dictionary for Occupational Therapy is the indispensable reference tool for students and practitioners, addressing the rapidly evolving landscape of occupational therapy practice through over 4,000 separate definitions.

In addition to the core dictionary, the book features nearly 100 appendices covering specific topics, from growth and development in early childhood to legislation and policy decisions affecting rehabilitation. This new edition has been thoroughly updated to maintain compliance with current AOTA standards and guidelines, as well as new appendices covering artificial intelligence (AI) in occupational therapy practice, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications, trauma-informed care, mental health integration in physical rehabilitation, and the latest interprofessional collaboration models.

The 8th edition is an essential resource for every occupational therapist, occupational therapy assistant, students training to qualify, and faculty members needing to remain up to date with the latest changes in the field.

" A must have for all OT students & OT practitioners "

***I love my QRD for Occupational Therapy (4th edition) because aside from being an excellent quick reference dictionary it includes other sections that touch on several areas that are key to the Occupational Therapy profession. I especially enjoyed reading appendixes 1-60 which cover a medical roots terminology section, language sections for French, German, Portuguese and Spanish, and, so much more! All students and practitioners should have this super useful and easy to carry book.***

Life Saver

I have owned this book for 1 month and it looks like I have owned it for 1 year. This book is an excellent resource for papers, take home tests, and to look up words during lecture. It is compact enough that you can carry it with you to class or to work. Because I am a full time student, wife, and mother I carry my books with me wherever I go. I sneak study sessions while waiting for appointments, carpool lines, and during child sport practices. Due to the extensive appendices I do NOT have to carry several books with me. It is an investment that can benefit you throughout your entire OT professional career!!!

Quick reference dictionary for OTR's, COTA's, OTA's

This is a great book for OT students or for someone entering the field. Has just about everything you need to have at your finger tips. I would recommend this book to anyone in the field, after all you can't remember everything.

Excellent dictionary with very useful appendices

As a returning therapist who's been out of the field for a while, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. As the title implies, it is a DICTIONARY, and as such, defines terms. (I say this because the other reviewers were obviously looking for a different type of book, such as the equally excellent, Quick Reference to Occupational Therapy by Reed. When I was fresh out of OT school, I found that book very handy, and its appendices are great, too.) However, since I now need a dictionary tailored for OTs, this book is perfect for my purposes. And the appendices are extremely helpful. So, if you took a long break from OT, are changing practice areas, or have noticed that terminology has changed since you graduated school, get this book. It will make reading charts and deciphering jargon at the clinic much easier. You might also want to get the Quick Reference to Occupational Therapy book by Reed, but note that it doesn't provide definitions, as it is not a dictionary.

Wish I'd gotten this day 1 of OT school!

This book has it all at your fingertips! An excellent dictionary for our profession and quick charts for maintaining competence in various areas of practice. It would have been especially useful at the start of my OT education as a reference/study guide, but is certainly useful to any practioner. It includes AOTA documents (Code of Ethics, etc.), as well as necessary and thoughtful interview/intervention questions in Spanish, Portugese, French, and German for building rapport and communicating with clients of various ethnicities. You won't regret getting this book!
