A new Clifford phonics program! Six boxed sets (2 tk in Spring 2003, 2 tk in Fall 2003) of 12 books each will guide young readers through a carefully selected progression of letters and... This description may be from another edition of this product.
After buying four or five other suggested books meant to teach children to read (including the Bob set, which we hated), I was given this Clifford set as a gift. Almost overnight, my 4.5-year-old son started reading and hasn't stopped since. I'm not sure if it's the appeal of Clifford himself, the brightly colored and helpful images, or the way the books are actually written, but my son loves these books and takes enormous pride in getting through each of one of them. I strongly recommend them for any parent hoping to interest their child in beginning reading.

This boxed book set was one of the best investments i ever made in trying to teach my son to read and understand new words. He absolutely loves these books! Each book adds new words and I can't say anything bad about it. They are awesome and my son is now reading and very proud of himself!! He is in 1st grade.

I purchased sets 1 through 3 for my four-year old son and I think the books are very good for beginning readers. The Clifford books' words are easily learned because they build off each other (e.g., tent, went, sent, etc., are used on one page). The way in which the books are structured gives early readers the necessary confidence to keep trying. Your child will not get bored easily either, since each boxed set contains 12 books. Also, sight words are easily learned as well by using the same method I mentioned above. Finally, if your child recognizes upper and lower case letters, knows the letter sounds, is learning word families and sight words, the Clifford books are the best.
Great way to start to read buy your child must be ready

These Clifford readers are as good as any phonics readers I have seen, and they have the important feature that they star Clifford and his friends, beloved by children everywhere. There are two important things to remember when buying this (or another) set of beginning readers. First, be sure to buy the FIRST Clifford set first. (I made the mistake of buying Set 2 first, and quickly discovered that they were considerably more advanced than Set 1; the sets are really meant to be read in order.) Second, it is very important to keep in mind that your child will only be able to benefit from early readers once he or she is ready to read. I bought these for my son when he was not yet four years old. I would read them occasionally to him, but he had no interest whatsoever in trying to read them himself. But suddenly, about midway through kindergarten, he became very interested in learning to read. The Clifford books make it effortless to teach him. Each morning and evening we read a new Clifford book and he is so eager to do so. The stories are very sweet and star all of the characters from the TV show version of Clifford. In summary, if you're ready for a set of beginning readers, these are the ones I'd recommend.

I bought these as a gift for my 5 year old nephew - what a hit! He calls me on the phone so he can read them to me. His mother loves them too, she told me that other books were not keeping his interest, or were frustrating him, so that he wouldn't read them. She actually had to tell him they could call me back to read some more because he just wanted to read ALL the books to me at once! Highly recommend
