Born in Andong, South Korea, in 1963, Young-hwan Kim grew up in Daegu, Korea and attended Mapo High School in Seoul. He entered Seoul National University Law Department in 1982. He became an activist to promote democracy in South Korea. As the student leader at Seoul National University, Kim organized underground, anti-government activities. He published a cutting-edge Marxist monograph, which became a best seller. He secretly traveled to Pyongyang and met with Kim Il-sung. Disappointed by Kim Il-sung, he became an activist to introduce democracy in North Korea. He has served on the editorial board of ShidaeJongshin. He was awarded the Korean Human Rights. Book jacket.
