Will look a little out of date as you read, but...

This book will jump out as being a little out of date as you are reading (Sweet mentions the possibility of using the VCR not the DVD player, he speaks of the probability that people will be using personal computers at home, he mentions nothing of the internet), because there have been so many changes (see above) which have taken place since the publication of Q.S.However, Sweet's insight into "people" and "perspectives" in timeless. And, the incarnational Gospel he calls us to live out (using the tools of the day-- whatever they may be) make this book worth the read. In addition, the fact that book is a little out-dated (by techonology mentioned only) does give you a chance to evaluate-- how much of what he has suggested has come true? how much has been useful? how might we have better taken some of the advice? In other words, read it NOW and look BACK and you can "case study" yourself and your ministry for the last few years. That's worth the price of the book and the time it will take to wade through it, alone.
Quantum Spirituality - We're never too old

I love the fresh, penetrating manner in which Leanord Sweet plumbs the depths of authenticity and relevancy in the church. In a time when 40 somethings are joined at the hip to 20 somethings by a common disregard for the "truth as we've known it", this work refreshingly points seekers to their own crucible of discovery and healthy reflection on what really is real and what really is not. Not a "how to", but a "how about?". Not a "should", but a "can if you want to" - hitting upon the quantum levels of our faith, our perceptions and our actions in a rapidly changing world. Read it twice.
Quantum Spirituality Good news for postmodern christians

Sweet focuses this book with the basic essence of the New Testament and Jesus expression to humanity: The Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory. He does this while attempting to capture both theological, pure scientific and social scientific realities in context of postmodern thougt. His treatment of both the art and and science of human discovery and spiritual reflection balanced and meaningful. He does not lend himself to Christian cliche and formula proof texting of scripture and theology. However, he does not violate basic Christian doctrine or sensibilities with avant garde concepts. QS lends itself to reading a variety of ways. One can approach it devotionally reading portions, paragraphs and sections as a companion to the Bible or read whole chapters independantly as an study itself. The writing is multi-layered where as the simplicity of the consepts are relayed while the depth of text can arrest one's attention for serious consideration.I was first introduced to L Sweet's work in 1993 through QS. As a former pastor and present social worker I find myself packing QS with me on every vacation to be challenged again and again. Guaranteed the best $20 spent. Alongside my Bible no other text during seminary or since has gotten so much attention from me in study, reference and devotion.Gordon Smith
