This work aims to contribute to understanding the necessity of quality management in disability care and the assessment of quality standards, and to enable an evaluation of their significance. For the quality of an institution, it is crucial that externally specified quality standards are integrated into everyday work and that their objectives and purpose are understood and accepted by employees. It is usually ineffective if they are simply imposed from above but viewed by employees solely as a control measure. Dialogue between those who set standards and those who implement them should be encouraged in order to develop standards that make sense from both perspectives. Furthermore, it would be beneficial to involve the residents of the residential facilities in this exchange, as they - as users of the services - should be the focus of attention.
