Restless Petroleum Engineer Macarius Gregory departs his familiar home in Colorado and embarks on a global journey. His path takes him to the remote oil fields of Cerro Drag n in Argentina, the lush Ecuadorian Amazon, the sweltering desert of Kuwait, and finally, an offshore oil rig in the stormy seas of Norway. Fueled by a yearning to find the perfect companion and grappling with industry fatigue, Macarius quits and travels to Berlin.
In an unexpected turn, a shadowy Herr Balzer mistakes Macarius for a contract killer. Herr Balzer warns Macarius twice that the Preciado woman is treacherous.
Macarius meets his best friend, Jeremy Moody, in San Miguel de Allende on Dia de Los Muertos. Unsuspectingly, a bewildering series of unforeseen events transforms them into unwitting pawns in a web of cruel and capricious fate. Disregarding Herr Balzer's cautionary words, Macarius is propelled into compelling circumstances that force him to vanquish an unlikely adversary, consequently exposing his closely guarded secret.
