What would you give to sit down with some of the most influential youth workers in the country? Not just the big names but those individuals who have proven time after time that they have a passion for reaching teens today that is pushing the limits of traditional youth ministry? In Pushing the Limits, veteran youth workers Mike Calhoun and Mel Walker have collected some of the best writing from youth pastors and leaders in churches big and small around the country who are doing what it takes to tap into the true potential of youth ministry. They give you the opportunity to find out what these youth leaders are doing that is making an impact and put it to work in your own ministry.
I wish I had this book 30 years ago when I started youth ministry. The book clearly lays out where to take students and how to put together a personalize plan for each student. The book challenged me to take a deep look at my ministry and make adjustments. It is easy to become comfortable with what I am good at doing. "Pushing the Limits..." reminds me that I need to produce Godly students who are able to stand in this evil day AND reach this generation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thanks Mel and Mike for putting your insights in this format. First class job!

I've been in youth ministry for 20 years. How I wish this book was around 20 years ago. As I read it, I saw myself in its pages, both positively and negatively. It had me hooked in the first paragraph of the first chapter.
Awesome read

What a book! Every person who is working as a youth leader needs to read this. Chapter 4 is especially helpful on "Spiritual Diagnosis." Also chapter 11 on "Teaching others to be what I already am." A must read for youth pastors and youth lay leaders.
Pushing the Limits of My Youth Ministry

This work gives me the perspective I need to minister to youth in a three-second culture. Teens today respond to last year's ministry techniques. The problem is that their response is not what the youth pastor desired. Mike and Mel reveal how today's ministers must adapt to the ever-changing youth culture.

Being a youth ministers is no easy task and is often frustrating. Youth ministers often leave the youth group bored. Not only are the youth often bored they learn little if any. This book provides the answers on youth ministry. I am a student at Crossroads Bible College in Indianapolis, Indiana and a student of Tim Ahlgrim, who is one of the authors in this book. Professor Ahlgrim is an experienced youth worker with years of experience in many aspects of youth ministries. It provides solutions from the bible and draws from the experience of 15 different youth ministers. Chapters include: Leading By Truth Or Trend by Mike Calhoun; Go Where They Are by Tim Ahlgrim; Teaching On Purpose With Purpose by Mel Walker; Building A Great Student Ministry by Ben Brow and many, many more. The book answers questions like: Why large number of teens including Christians are straying from church after college. How you can harness the power of cliques, peer pressure, and friendships to impact dramatically not just your youth but your entire community for Christ How to prepare teens for real-life conversations about what they believe.
