In August of 1636, John Endicott leads a force of 100 Puritan militia to Block Island to exact retribution for the murder of Captain John Oldham. Military Commander John Underhill is uncertain of Endicott's intentions but he dutifully carries out orders. The Island Sachem named Jacquantu has his own plan to spare his people with the hope to keep control of their island home. But, the young brave Asesakes' hope that they will be spared is almost crushed under the cruel weight of a sudden loss. At the same time, back in Boston, the Puritan leaders are engaged in a political and spiritual battle from within. Anne Hutchinson's popularity while advocating for a Gospel of Grace threatens the male-dominated Puritan Theocracy. This begins to set the stage for a small group of like-minded pioneers to search for a place where they can freely practice the convictions of their hearts. The Puritan leaders execute a second invasion of Block Island to secure final restitution for the death of Oldham and to claim Block Island for Massachusetts Bay by right of conquest
